The process of an embolism involves a mass forming out of blood, air, fat, or some other material. It usually is blood from Deep Vein Thrombosis. The embolism forms and then moves through the blood stream upward in the body. Then it lodges in the arteries in places like the lungs or it can go to the brain or into the lungs.
Embolisms can be very dangerous. The process can be a deadly one if there is not immediate and effective treatment given. The situation proceeding the forming of an embolism must be just right. The clotting is supposed to be a postitive thing within the body which keeps free and excess bleeding from occuring. But in the case of an embolism, it is not good at all. The blood clots and the clot can cause great damage whereas if blood clots on an external cut, it is a good thing that can prevent bleeding to death.
Embolisms form when there is enough thickness or enough of an invading material, even too much air, so it is encased. Then it travels to a destination because it is dislodged. The process is preventable when one knows it is happening. Blood thinners can disolve the embolism before it even travels. But knowing the embolism is formed or forming is the tricky part because they cannot be detected on xray and often, by the time one is discovered, it has already dislodged and is lodged in a new and more dangerous location, such as the lungs.
