The minimum wage in Spain (SMI) is applicable to every worker regardless of their gender, age, or employment. This does not exclude casual and short-term work or private work within the service of a home.
The Spanish minimum wage is reviewed and set every year by the government via a Royal decree. Several workers in Spain are paid 14 times a year (with extra payments in July and December).
This sum up to a minimum salary of 12,600 EUR a year in 2019.
2017 minimum wage (14 payments): 707.60 EUR per month
2018 minimum wage (14 payments): 736.00 EUR per month
2019 minimum wage (14 payments): 900.00 EUR per month
Over 5.5 million people in Spain receive the Spanish minimum wage. However, according to data from Spain's statistical institute in December 2017, the highest five most well-paid jobs in Spain are commercial pilot, Surgeon, Orthodontist, Engineering project director, and ICT director.
