Like crossword puzzles and now online puzzles, there are many competitions and contests that people can go to if they qualify for it. Due to sudoku being around for a long period of time, people and companies have established competitions and contests for sudoku players. Most of the time, the bigger contests require interested players to qualify by doing sudoku puzzles in a certain amount of time.

They would be competing against others at the same time to see which would go to the contests. In 2019, there were actually a lot of championships for sudokus. In 2019, the World Puzzle Federation was having its 2019 championship in sudoku. It held in Kirchheim which is in Germany. The Sudoku Championship 2020 is expected to be held in Shanghai, China and the expected month is October 2020 .
