As a rule, polar compounds dissolve in water; however, most of the organic compounds like ethyl alcohol are hydrocarbons, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids do not dissolve in water. While many organic compounds are not polar molecules and therefore don’t dissolve well in the water of a cell, they will often dissolve in other organic compounds.
Organic compounds are the compounds associated with life processes. Their association with organisms are the subject matter of organic chemistry. They are carbon-containing compounds. Among the many types of organic compounds, four major categories are found in all living things.
