I believe the correct answer to this question is No; an app would not be able to replace Instagram. When Instagram was released, many thought it would replace Facebook and Twitter, but the apps that have been around coming up with new and innovative components of their apps to keep their users engaged. Many use various apps for different purposes.
FaceBook includes users of all ages and is used to keep up with family and friends. Twitter is mainly used to discuss current events, especially politics, and watch shows and awards with other users. Instagram is a photo-sharing app, where people share almost anything, including their business and photos of what they ate for dinner.
Whenever a company creates a great product or service, many people think that it would be easy to duplicate it or even create their own type of product or service and make it better. When the company becomes successful, then it is inspiring for those who are in the same industry to try to duplicate the product. However, it seems like the product or service would be easy to create, but quickly the company or individual will realize that it is quite difficult.
There might be some apps currently that could replace Instagram, but haven’t become as popular as Instagram. These would include Yummi, Flickr and Tumblr. These are the only ones that are apps that could replace Instagram based upon the fact that they offer similar functions and have a large number of users.
