Egypt became known as the “gift of the Nile” when Egyptians realized that at certain times of the year the Nile would flood. Instead of thinking this is a negative thing, the people would make it a positive thing. When the Nile flooded, it would make the farmland surrounding this area very fertile.
Then the farmers’ land could grow more crops. Everyone was happy especially the farmers. Egypt’s Nile River still does this flooding today. Herodotus was a famous philosopher who gave this name to Egypt.
He became aware of what was happening. Since he was a philosopher and historian, he often wrote about places and decided to write about Egypt and this flooding. He considered what the Nile did as a gift to Egypt.
