Jeff Bezos has built an empire from his Amazon online store where consumers can purchase an amalgam of products. Amazon was started in Bezos’s garage in the nineties, but it has grown to sell products internationally. From Amazon, he has created Amazon Prime and Amazon Studios. However, this has not been his only venture.
While he is primarily known for creating Amazon, he acquired the Washington Post, and he focused on updating the paper so that its circulation was in line with what other papers were doing. Using technology, he put the paper online to increase circulation. At this point, the paper was purportedly to have been revived by the policies he implemented.
Ultimately, while Bill Gates helped develop some of the technologies that make the internet so accessible and easy to use, Bezos used the platform to create an almost $134 billion dollar industry, making it not only richer than Gates but also the richest man in the world as of 2019.
