The amount that he gives yearly fluctuates because his net worth changes from year to year. However, he donates more than half of his income (almost 58%) to charitable causes. Much of these donations are given through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and they not only donate their time but their money as well.

Most of their work focuses on education and health issues in the United States with kids getting ready to college being the primary focus. Also, he has donated money toward a universal flu vaccine with Google Founder Larry Page.


His largest donation, however, was last year. The amount was for $4.6 billion and this was in 2017. This has been the largest donation Gates has made since 2000 when he gave away close to $5 billion in shares away. Gates is considered one of the most generous men in the country because of his commitment to charity, and because of his sizable contributions.
