What is the role of the neutron in an atom? This is always something that people want to know especially those who are only starting to learn more about atoms in general. The neutron is meant to make sure that the protons will not repel each other. Rather, they would be doing exchanges whenever they become too close to each other.

Protons are also meant to ensure that the balance of the atom will take place. Take note that protons can be very unstable, so without the help of the electrons, they may cause some damages to the atoms. The neutrons will provide the stabilization that protons need.

The common composition of the atom is a combination of electrons, protons, and neutrons. These electrons have a negative charge and are involved in bonding to stabilize the atom. Now the protons have a positive charge and work to balance the charge of the atom.

The neutrons form a bond with the protons and one another within the confines of the nucleus through a strong force. They moderate the repulsive forces between the protons and the stabilizing of the nucleus.

In an atom, a proton carries a positive charge. An electron carries a negative charge and a neutron that does not have a charge. Although a neutron is chargeless, it plays a significant role in keeping an atom stable.A hydrogen atom does not have any neutron that is why it easily creates bonds with other atoms.

An atom with two or more protons need neutrons to stabilize it as when there is no or a low number of neutrons than the number of protons, the nuclei would not take the movement of the protons thus it would fly apart. Neutrons act as a glue of the nuclei that holds the protons together and when an atom is not stable, it can cause danger especially when neutrons are greater than protons.
