The first bullet train was built by Japan and it has given the country a reputation of being more advanced and prosperous. It has allowed for the people to be more mobile at affordable costs. It was about fifty years ago that Japan introduced the first high speed train system known as the Bullet Train. Their network of trains still remains as a standard for those countries that have followed suit and built their own high speed train networks.

Japan launched their bullet train in 1964 and it was known by the term yume no chotokkyu, which means “super-express of dreams” to give a description of what people can expect. This feat was not easy as Japan faced a lot of hurdles. There were numerous opposition from the public, technical difficulties, and costs that were difficult to bear. They took a loan from the World Bank for $80 million which barely covered the expenses of development. Finally, the head of the project, Shinji Sogō resigned due to extreme pressure from all sides. But the project eventually succeeded and built the world’s first bullet train.
