A lot of people are aware that trains have been in operation for a long time. This is one of the primary modes of transportation that people have used before in order to get to different destinations. Trains were also used in order to transport different items from one place to another.

According to this data, the United States of America has the largest network of railway lines with a 240,000 km system of tracks. Theoretically, if you were to take their tracs and circle the earth, you would circle the earth five times. About 80% of the United States railway network delivers freight across the nation. Only 20% is used for the transportation of passengers.

The US plans to produce a 27,000km high speed rail system by 2030 by four phases of development. Once this development gets completed, the United States will continue to hold their position as the nation with the largest rail system in the world. The second largest railway system is Russia with 154,000 km throughout the nation of Russia. The third is canada and the fourth is China. The Indian railway comes in only fifth and is the largest railway system under one management.

The largest rail network in the world belongs to the United States. Second is China and then third is India. For the most part, the United States has mostly freight lines. That is why in the United States when we stop at a railroad crossing because a train is crossing, there are not passengers on board, but freight is on it.

That is also why it seems that the United States’ main mode of transportation for people is not the train but cars, buses and airplanes. About eighty percent of the network is used for freight with only twenty percent for passenger transport. However, a project is being considered to provide a rail system in about ten years. China has less than half of the network.
