Protons are the positively charged particles at the center of an atom and determine by their number what element the molecule is. If you were to remove any of the electrons, the negatively charged particles that orbit around the nucleus of the atom, the protons would remain positively charged, and the element would not be changed save the minor increase in the strength of the proton’s positive charge.

If you were to remove one or more protons from the nucleus, you would essentially change the entire atom to be a different element. While you cannot change the protons to a neutral or negative charge, you can alter the strength of the positivity by the activity of the electrons or the removal of them.

By changing the activity, meaning if the electrons were closer or further away from the protons, it would make the protons have a stronger or weaker positive charge, but in extremely minuscule amounts.
