To many people, Alexander was a visionary, gifted with both intelligence, ambition and courage, which were the factors that made a formidable leader. His ability to strategize military campaigns on a large scale allowed him to win many battles, even when the odds were against him. It also helped motivate his men, who knew they were part of one history's greatest conquests.
Alexander was inspiring and courageous. When training his men, he was committed to make them capable of winning battles, rewarding them with honors and spoils. He was also committed as a fellow combatant, fighting side-by-side with his soldiers, which strengthened their loyalty towards him and confidence as warriors. Alexander was also young, attractive and empathetic to his people. Those helped to increase his influence on his soldiers and subjects.
Despite his personality and military accomplishments, history records noted that he failed to win the respect of some his subjects. Furthermore, he had those subjects closest to him murdered. He was also noted being responsible for the many deaths of Persians, Greeks and Macedonians.
