Beethoven did something that many composers could not do. He changed the way that music was viewed, and created. When Beethoven began to create music, he was very young. At the time, everything that he wrote molded into the conforms of the time. His first piece was composed at the young age of twelve. But as Beethoven matured and developed his skill, he began to swerve off the normalcy of the time.
Beethoven is credited with bringing music out of the Classical age. He began an entirely new movement, which many refer to as the “Romantic” period. The pieces that he composed ranged in length, temperament, and emotion. While his work shocked some, it captured others. Beethoven is remembered as the greatest composer, because of his willingness to create something new, which was exciting.
Coupled with the fact that he began to lose his hearing when he was in his twenties, and still continued to compose music. Many of his best pieces were written while his hearing was fading, and the Symphony No. 9 was written when he was entirely without hearing. For these reasons alone, he has gone down in history as the greatest composer through the ages.
