Carbon is so abundant on earth simply because it is only carbon that its atom can form four chemical bonds with other atoms. This enables it to be able to form many other compounds. Also, the carbon atoms fit in comfortably into very large molecules because of their small size and nature. Oxygen is the most abundant element in the earth’s crust, considering the chemical composition of the earth, while carbon takes the second position.

Relating to the fact that carbon and oxygen react easily, this also enhances the formation of carbon in different other forms. In addition, carbon is a very useful substance in the day to day use of human. It is used as a huge source of fuel in different areas; ranging from our homes to the automobiles, and several machines that are used in the industry. This also makes man seek more of this compound in other to enable the continual availability of its usefulness.
