Similar to other types of the airplane, military airplanes are mainly made from aluminum alloys.
Aluminum is quite abundant in the Earth’s crust. Aluminum is very strong, lightweight and highly resistant to corrosion.
These features make it easy for aircraft to fly and to withstand heat and corrosion. Aluminum is also cheap compared to other strong metals such as steel and titanium. For these reasons, most parts of these aircraft are made from aluminum.
Another composite alloy used in making military aircraft is titanium. Titanium is also very strong and much more resistant to corrosion than aluminum.
Magnesium, carbon epoxy, glass fibers, and steel are also highly used in making military aircraft.
