Antarctica is a very vital place and of help to the earth as its importance to the earth's climate has been of great importance to the human race, even n unknowingly to us. Due to human's day-to-day activities, there are some releases of chemicals that have been harmful to the ozone layer. And any hatefulness to the ozone layer subjects the earth to direct rays of sunshine.

This will then lead to high temperatures, which is not really favorable to both plants and animals, including human beings. However, Antarctica is covered with a large amount of ice. This ice has been essential in absorbing the rays of sunshine from the sun, and thus reducing the intensity of sunlight and heat on the earth's surface. Antarctica also helps in providing habitat for some animals such as penguins. The sea around the continent also helps in housing some sea lives, such as whales and dolphins.

Although Antarctica seems to be uninhabitable for living, this Southernmost continent plays a crucial role in protecting our planet, Earth.

It is believed that the Antarctic ice help to deflects some of the sun’s rays away from the Earth, keeping temperatures liveable for us.

Also, the Southern Ocean that is around Antarctica absorbs a large amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This helps slow down the rate at which our climate change.

The Ocean also supports large portions of the earth’s sea life. This encourages the blooming of plankton, which further boosts the food chain.

Even though Antarctica is one of the least disturbed places in the world, there is now an increased vulnerability due to global warming and climatic changes.

Antarctica does give the Earth some protection, perhaps more than is currently known. Its ice deflects some of the sun’s rays away from the Earth, otherwise the temperatures we experience might not be surviveable. The ocean surrounding the Antarctic region supports masses of the world’s sealife such as 15 species of whale and dolphin, as well as many species of penguins. The waters are rich with nutrients which encourage tiny plankton, the basis of the ocean food chain.

A different 'protection' is the iced-up archive that tells of our planet's climate over almost a million years. This information guides understanding of how we should act to preserve the Earth. Thus, Antarctica is one of the world's most important ‘natural laboratories’ where many scientists suffer the cold to work. Preserving Antarctica and its surrounds may be vital for our survival.
