How many types of abortions are there?

There are two types of abortions that are available. The first type is called medical abortion. This is a process that would require the input of medications or pills that will induce abortion. There are two pills that need to be taken. The first one, Mifepristone and the second one is Misoprostol.

It may cause severe cramping that will eventually expel the fetus from the body. The second type of abortion is called surgical abortion. This would require a minor procedure so that the fetus can be removed from the body of the woman.

This may be done when the pregnancy has already progressed from the first trimester, and the pills will not work anymore in aborting the fetus.

There are two types of abortions. Availability of abortions are avilable worldwide. Abortions are regulated differently in different countries and cultues.

Medical Abortion and Surgical Abortion

Medical Abortion is taking a medical pill that will end the pregnancy. Take the pill for ten weeks while in your pregnancy. Talk with your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to be taking this.

Don’t take Medical Abortion if
The pregnancy has implanted outside of uterus
Allergic to mifepristone or misprostol
Bleeding Disorder
Liver, Kidney, or Lung disease
If you have been taking corticosteroid drugs

Surgical Abortion is a medical procedure to help remove the pregnancy. Procedures can be done with local anesthetics under sedation. All surgical abortions must be done in a healthcare providing clinic. You must speak with your doctor if you are also healthy enough for the surgical procedure. Surgical has been known to affect women’s mental health.

There are different types of abortion. Thay are usually done by trimester.
Abortion within the first 7 weeks of pregnancy is commonly done through the use of certain medications (mifepristone and misoprostol).

Pregnancy up to 10 weeks are mostly aborted through medical method, the doctor or health care provider gives mifepristone in the clinic and misoprostol will be taken home and the fetus is expelled after some hours.

Pregnancy of up to 12 – 16 weeks can be aborted through vacuum aspiration method. Suction is used to pull the fetus and placenta out of the uterus.

Dilation and evacuation is done in pregnancy over 14 weeks. This type of abortion procedure is recommended for delayed abortion.

Spontaneous abortion is a type of abortion that happens naturally. The conceptual product is expelled out of the woman’s body without any form of external trigger. This type of abortion is common in the first trimester.

Induced abortion is the expulsion of conceptual product caused by a deliberate step to end the pregnancy. This type of abortion is further divided into two forms

Medical abortion (“abortion pill”): this involves the use of medication to end the pregnancy.
Surgical abortion: a minor procedure to remove the pregnancy.
