There are a couple trends that have been around for a couple of years. For women, jeans are definitely experiencing an evolution of retro style circa the mid-1980s. Skinny jeans are all the rage, and the more distressed the better. Today’s stores, especially if they specialize in jeans, have all sorts of jeans sizes bespoke to women’s frames (curvy, straight, boot-cut, long, regular, and short sizes).
Leisure wear is also big still with many people turning yoga pants matched hoodies and t-shirts into everyday outfits, and these outfits can be dressed up to reflect a more street, edgy look. If they are not wearing yoga pants, they are wearing some version of leisure/athletic wear. Of course, sweat shirts with cute messages can be interchanged with hoodies depending on the weather.
When looking at tops, tunics and button downs are popular choices with tunics being especially popular in the summer and early fall. Also, popular are newer versions of the sixties baby doll blouses, which are really great in the summer. These can be worn over any first layer tank top and dressed up with either longer cardigans that do not button up, or of course, the distress denim jacket.
As for shoes, lots of open-toed, heeled sandals for the summer, and the ankle boot is still very popular. As we get closer to the summer, expect to see a lot Perspex shoe wear, sling backs, combat and cowboy boots, pretty pastels, and strappy sandals.
