Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic from Spain in the Santa Maria in 1492, in less than two months of sailing across the Atlantic, he landed on the Island of Bahamas and he claimed the island for Spain, he discovered more islands on the way. He made a total of four voyages between 1492 and 1504 to the Caribbean and South America. Total of 12 years.

He took his second expedition in 1493 to explore more Islands in the Caribbean ocean. His last voyage was in 1502 traveling along the eastern coast of the Central America in an unsuccessful search for a route to the Indian Ocean. Columbus died on the 20th of May, 1506.
