Why was George Washington disturbed by Benedict Arnold's betrayal?

Benedict Arnold’s name is synonymous with being a traitor. He began as a prominent officer in George Washington’s Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, but after a few years, he decided to fight for the British. This was unusual since many soldiers are loyal to their cause.

As a leader, this disturbed George Washington since he trusted Benedict Arnold. It was one thing to leave the Army and go home, but it was totally a different thing to fight for the enemy.

George Washington knew that Benedict Arnold also knew his strategies for fighting the war. George Washington would have to change his strategies now that the British knew based on what Benedict Arnold told them as soon as he started fighting for them.
