John Paul Jones is a name that rolls right off of the tongue. That is because it is the name associated with the navy and the navy during the American Revolutionary War.

Since the United States did not become the U.S. until the American Revolutionary War, Jones was the very first commander of the U.S. Navy. Therefore, he became known as the father of the U.S. Navy.

If the U.S. had lost the war, Jones would most likely not have been named that because the U.S. would have gone back to British rule and would no longer be the United States. Also, Jones did a lot of good to contribute to the success of the United States winning their independence and freedom.
