John Paul Jones was in charge of many fleets in the U.S. Navy during the American Revolutionary War. One ship of the British Navy was the HMS Drake. This ship was located off the coast of Ireland.

The winds caused many problems coupled with the disagreements from Jones’s own men in regard to the actions that should be taken. The British Navy was avoided by Jones and his men by the shifts in the winds causing him to go different directions.

However, it was also the intelligence and strategies of attacking places on land that helped him to avoid the British navy especially around the British Isles. The British navy was not about to sit around their own land. Instead, they were heading toward America across the Atlantic Ocean.
