John Paul Jones is a name that rolls off your tongue. The first time people heard his name was in the American Revolutionary War. He was a commander in the Navy and became famous as being the first commander for the United States.
He was born in Scotland and died in France at the age of forty-five. He was loyal to Great Britain until 1776 when the United States declared their independence from Britain. Then he fought for the patriots.
During the war, he founded the Continental Navy. The final battle at Yorkshire showed his expertise. The U.S. Navy with the French fought off and surrounded the British in order to win the war. This was done through his help as the commander.
