Perennial issues are those that are always in existence and will probably exist into perpetuity, and it is a way to find logic in religious and non-religious belief systems. Its purpose is to explain the role that logic plays in conventional, as well as non-conventional belief systems. Making decisions based solely upon faith tends to be irrational. For example, leaving a job or relationship based on the notion that a higher power has instructed the person to do so is unreasonable.

However, when faith comes into play, there are no clear rules about what rational or irrational means, and it all depends upon the situation. Logic generally must play a role in decision making, unless there is a higher purpose or reason for the decision. The structure of such a rationalized belief system resembles but does not emphasize a system of strictly logic and streamlined systems. Logic is based upon reasoning, and religion is based upon faith.
