This is a difficult question to answer, and one that changes very frequently for many people. It is hard to speculate on what could or could not potentially happen in the future with a technology which has not fully developed yet. But one thing that we can do is talk about where the technology is right now. Currently, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is not capable of sentience and will not be capable of sentience for a long time yet.

Sentience is defined as the ability to feel, experience, and awareness. So common examples of sentient beings are humans and animals. Some examples of things which are not sentient include items like cups, chairs, and currently includes AI systems but may not in the future.
