A capacitor is created out of two metal plates, and an insulating material called a dielectric. The plates are made out of a conductive material: aluminum, tantalum, silver, and other metals. The dielectric can be made from several materials.
This material includes paper, glass, rubber, ceramic, plastic, or anything that will impede the flow of current. The plates are each connected to a terminal wire, which connects the rest of the circuit. Capacitor plates are made of conducting materials. Manufacturers also use ductile metals to make thin plates from foils.
