Sonnets can be classified into six major types: Italian, Miltonic, Terza Rima, Shakespearean sonnets, and curtal sonnets. The rhyme scheme of a Petrarchan sonnet spotlights the first eight lines, called an octet which rhymes as abba, abba, cdc. The remaining six lines are called a set and might have a range of rhyme schemes.
The sonnet has become a favorite among different poets because it has excellent adaptability to varying poets because it has great versatility for different purposes and requirements. Sonnets can be a perfect poetic style for elaboration or expression of a single feeling or thought, with its short length in iambic parameter.
