Dry eye syndrome, glaucoma and cataracts are probably the most common eye conditions, although this may differ from continent to continent. Muscular degeneration is common amongtst the elderly. The muscles weaken with age and sight becomes less good. Dry eye syndrome is associated with arthritis, but simple hypromellose eye drops relieve the condition although not curing it. Cataracts are these days easily treated.
The operation is apparently painless and excellent results are typically reported. Another common eye disease is conjunctivitis where viral or bacterial infection has caused swelling of the thin transparent layer of tissue that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye.
