The patacas were introduced in 1894 in Portuguese Macau and Portuguese Timor. The unit corresponds with the Mexican peso, and it replaced the Portuguese real at a rate of on pataca equals 450 reals. The coins were not issued until 1952.
The coins they have out now are granted by the Monetary of the Authority of Macau. Pataca banknotes are currently issued in Hong Kong. These banknotes are issued by two commercial banks, the Banco National Ultramarine and the Bank of China. Notes are issued in Portuguese and Chinese.
