James Earl Ray is best known as being the murderer of Martin Luther King Jr. He assassinated him in 1968 while King was visiting Memphis. As King was standing on the balcony at his motel on the second floor, Ray shot and killed King. Everyone mourned the loss of Martin Luther King. Jr. Ray was arrested and sent to prison.
His prison sentence included ninety-nine years. He escaped and so another year was added to his sentence to make it one hundred years. After spending almost thirty years in prison, Ray who was forty-one years old at the time of the assassination, died in prison in 1998. He suffered from Hepatitis C and died from the disease. There were times when Ray wanted a retrial.
