As you go deeper into a sea, the pressure of the water pushing down on you increases. Also, pressure decreases as you come up to the surface of the sea. Each 10 meters depth adds one bar of ambient pressure, this simply means, the pressure increases about one atmosphere for every 10 meters (33 feet) of water depth.
If
1 ambient of pressure = 10 meters depth
Then
40 ambient of pressure = 400 meters
Therefore, at a depth of 400 meters, the average pressure will be about 40 atmosphere or 40 times greater than the pressure at the sea level.
