Glacial ice is also known as blue ice, this is because of the blue color of the glacial ice. The color is different when compared to regular ice. Glacial ice is formed when snow fall accumulates in a place over a long period of time. The snow is further compressed. Over time, the snow transforms into granular firn.

Compactation and crystal growth occur and the firm is transformed into glacial ice. Most of the world's glacial ice is found in Antarctica and Greenland but glacial ice can be found in all continents of our planet - Earth.
Glacial ice is usually very old, they can be more than hundred to thousands of years old.
