The correct answer to this question is Lightning is electricity moving between a cloud and the ground. Lightning discharge can have a number of effects. It can produce an array of electromagnetic radiation.

This can include hot plasma and the flashes that one sees during storms. Lightning is what produces thunder. There are three types of lightning. One is heat lightning, which can not be heard but can be seen far away.

Then, there is dry lightning, which is how forest fires are caused. The third is ball lightning, which is rare to be seen or experienced by scientists or the everyday person.
