Generally, Islam has similar prohibitions as in many other religions, like Christianity and Judaism. It must be taken into account that those religions came out in a society that’s so different from ours that we cannot begin to comprehend some of the teachings in the key texts. The only difference is that some societies have allowed themselves to develop beyond the social norms of 2000 years ago, others are being pulled down by some extreme interpretations to relive the 7th century today. Islam is no different than Christianity in its prohibitions.
It is Muslim societies that have not been flexible enough to embrace new ways of thinking about such issues and the problem lies in their mentalities regarding new things. So, when it comes to dating, a man and a woman are not allowed to be alone together, and any physical contact before marriage is forbidden.
Hence, Dating is not permitted in Islam. However, If a Muslim man has the desire and willingness to assume marital responsibilities, and he doesn’t have anyone in mind, he might ask his friends, family and relatives if there is a woman that might be suitable for him among their acquaintances and relatives, and then the couple can meet with their family members.
