Coat
A silky and feathered coat, this breed has a medium length coat. Acceptable colors for this breed are mahogany or rich chestnut red. Black is a disqualification. Minimal white allowed.

The Irish Setter is a very high energy and intelligent breed; this dog is full of life. Can be somewhat high strung, but are sensitive as well. A very loveable breed that enjoys being around people. Jolly, giddy, and stubborn are used to describe this beautiful breed. Will surely be a joy to own.
Character
Very lively, energetic, and impulsive. The Irish Setter loves to run. This breed should always be kept on a lead when outdoors as they have the tendency to run off and can be difficult to catch. Requires firm and consistent training.
Temperament
The Irish Setter is affectionate, loving, and sensitive, this breed is not recommended for the average home. Being very active, they can become somewhat destructive if left alone for long periods. This breed requires entertainment if they are to be well mannered and respectful.
Care
An average shedding breed, daily brushing or combing is required to keep the coat flat and free of mats or tangles. Bathing only when necessary, this is a rather clean breed and does not require much coat maintenance.
Training
Firm handling is a must with this stubborn and free spirited breed. May be difficult to train, but consistency and exercise will ensure a happy life with your Irish Setter. Does well in hunting activities and water retrieving.
Activity
The Irish Setter requires regular exercise. Three walks per day are recommended as this dog has the tendency to become restless. This breed is not for apartment life and does best with a medium to large sized yard, or great for the country environment.
