People and animal teeth have the same basic make-up, although the shape and positioning may vary by species. All vertebrates have teeth, and any animal including humans have backbones. Teeth for any animal consists of a mix of calcium, mineral salts, and phosphorous. Teeth are made up of four different types of tissue.
These include pulp, dentin, enamel, and cementum. Pulp consists of connective tissue, nerves, and blood vessels. Dentin surrounds the pulp, and it makes up most of the tooth. Enamel covers the dentin and cementum covers the outside of the root and holds the tooth in place within the jawbone.
