The discovery of Uranus is being credited to William Herschel. The planet was discovered back in 1781. Uranus was seen because Herschel was looking at the sky at that time. His intention was to check out the different stars when he saw something different. The telescope he was using was something that he has created.

Take note that Uranus’ first name isn’t Uranus. It was called The Georgium Sidus before but since it does not match with all of the names of the other planets, the name was proposed by Johann Bode. Take note that Uranus is the first planet that was discovered with the use of a telescope.
