In astronomy, a trojan is a small planet or moon that shares the orbit of a plane or larger moon, wherein the trojan remains in the same, stable position relative to the more massive object. Trojan asteroids are labeled for heroes of the Trojan War. Trojan asteroids are a large grouping of objects that share the orbit of the planet Jupiter around the sun. Such asteroids were first discovered in Jupiter's orbit.
The Trojan asteroids represent one possible solution to the famous three-body problem, with each group forming an equatorial triangle with the planet whose path they share and the sun. Some trojan asteroids are made of ice and dirt, rather than rock, making it possible that they have captured comets.
