In the book, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is set in the 1920s when the Great Depression took place, but Jay Gatsby is a millionaire who lives on Long Island. He is in love with a young married woman who lives across the way from him. He watches her. Her name is Daisy Buchanan. She is married to Tom who is also having an affair.
Soon, she has an affair with Jay Gatsby, but their relationship is really based on lies and deceit. Instead of achieving his financial status morally, he was actually a bootlegger with alcohol when it was not allowed and got his money that way. Therefore, he was not forthcoming to Daisy about how he made his millions.
