There are many different types of genres in relation to literature and that also apply to television series. There are dramas, comedies, family, documentaries, science fiction and fantasy. In this case, The Walking Dead would be considered to be a science fiction or fantasy type of genre because it is based on zombies which aren’t real as well as the setting. Many science fiction books and shows take place in the future.
In this case, The Walking Dead takes place in the future because the apocalypse has just taken place. There are not real humans in the show that would be included in dramas. Dramas and comedies usually have events that might occur today and they take place in the past or present.
