Transcription and translation are two processes involved during protein synthesis. With these two processes, cells are able to make proteins. However, the process of transcription comes before translation. Transcription refers to the process of copying the DNA of a gene and using it as a template in order to make an RNA molecule.
This automatically transfers the genetic information in DNA to the newly formed RNA molecule (mRNA). It is important to know that the process of transcription occurs in the nucleus. Also, the three steps of transcription are initiation, elongation, and termination. After the formation of the RNA molecule (mRNA), it leaves the nucleus and binds with a ribosome in the cytoplasm.
Once this happens, the ribosome can read the genetic information of the mRNA. This process allows the ribosome to produce a protein by translating messenger RNA. In other words, the process of translation allows cells to produce proteins.
