Newfoundland is an island in Canada. It is a large island on the east coast off of the Atlantic Ocean. It actually makes up over one-fourth of the country’s land mass. It joined Canada actually recently compared to the history of the world. It joined Canada on March 31, 1949.
However, Newfoundland has remained separate from Canada in terms of its people. They are somewhat looked at as outsiders compared to the rest of the Canadians. When the time came to decide whether Newfoundland would become part of Canada and not an independent nation on its own, it split the people and Canada as well.
Great Britain also wasn’t sure, but Newfoundland did join. As a matter of fact, they had their own gold coin before joining Canada.
