Many think the hardest substance to mine is diamonds, or if not uranium. It is true that until recently diamonds were the hardest substance on both the Moh and the Vickers scale, but now a substance that is harder still has been found.

It's possible it was formed from nuclear explosions, but this is yet to be finally determined. It is called lonsdaleite. Further, scientists at a Californian university have made Q-carbon by advanced heating methods and this is said to be harder than true diamond.
