Many consider Aristole (384 - 322 BC) to be the father of comparative anatomy. Aristole was from Stagira. He was considered father of comparative anatomy because of his detailed description of over 500 kind of animals.
His writings contains anatomical facts and observation, his studies also compared structures, functions, development and ecology of different organisms. He also studied how structures are different from one another rather than by composition. This brought about homologous and analogous structures.
