A space shuttle is a rocket-like vehicle that carries astronauts and other equipment into space. These space shuttles have not been around long, but they were created to explore space. These space flights have been called different names in order to tell them apart.
The first space shuttle was a test and it occurred in 1977 by the space shuttle known as the Enterprise. After the tests were performed throughout 1977, the first actual launch of a space shuttle was the Columbia. There were two crew members on board. This took place in 1981.
The other names of the space shuttles were called the Challenger, Endeavor, Discovery, and Atlantis. Each of these space shuttles took several trips. As the time moved on, more and more astronauts would come aboard these missions.
