Every second, solar winds in the solar system blows off protons from the sun’s surface. This means that the sun keeps losing its mass bit by bit. It doesn’t seem much when you consider the mass of a single proton/. However, when you add up the total amounts to about 1.5 million tons of material per second.
This is lot of mass to lose per second. This is why the sun is losing its mass and has been losing it since the very first day. Scientists have also found visible changes in the sun’s diameter as a proof that it is shrinking.
