Yes, fine art and art are similar but they are not the same. Art is a general term, it consist of different range of human activities that involves the creation of visual, auditory and performing works. This encompasses music, dance, photography, theatre works, history, literature, visual art and all other forms of performing arts while fine art refers to an aspect of art which involves creative works made for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content.
The works are judged for their meaningfulness and beauty. Film work, photography, Metal work, editing, printing, design, painting and sculpture are all part of fine art.
Studies in art will have more liberal courses like general studies, history and literature while a degree in fine art involves intensive art and design courses.
