With all currency, there is the primary unit which would be the dollar, and along with the central unit, there is a subunit, which is a fraction or percentage of the central unit. Many countries have several subunits or multilevel. The US dollar uses the decimal system consisting of 100 equal cents so the subunit would be the cent.
There is yet another division of the dollar, which is the dime, and there are ten dimes to the dollar. Along with the penny and the money, there are the nickel, quarter and half a dollar.
