Burning Man began in the 1980s by two men who wanted to show art and allow for expression. However, over time, the event changed and became a money-making way for people to capitalize on this idea. Now, it has gone back to being a non-profit event and to help other non-profit organizations. It includes ten principles to follow or learn while at the event.
The events include radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radial self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility leaving no trace, participation and immediacy. Through these principles everyone is welcome, people give gifts to one another and it provides a social event to allow for these things to be done. The environment is important and they stress for people to clean up after themselves.
